The Impi Robotics team is a FIRST robotics team based out of Ferndale High School from Ferndale, Michigan. We got our name from the Impi Warriors of South Africa. When our team first started we worked closely with a South African team. When they eventually folded, we were already “Impi Warriors”. We started as a team in 2007 working out of an old woodshop room with very little known of FIRST within our school/community. In our tenth of year of being a team, we have spread the message of FIRST throughout our school and community and are forever working toward our mission as a team of waging a war on technological illiteracy through the use of the FIRST robotics programs.
Over our years as a team, we have won various awards such as the Imagery Award, Creativity Award, Industrial Design Award, the Team Spirit Award, and The Chairman’s Award in the 2016 and 2017 season respectively. We won the Standish District Event in 2015 as well as the Gaylord District Event in 2017, and in 2015 we proceeded to go on to the championship event in St. Louis. We are generously sponsored by many local companies, including Sapa, Schaeffler, IBM, Ford, Fiat Chrysler Automotive, and the state of Michigan. We are also sponsored by Garden Fresh, Biggby Coffee, Jaycee Sales and Rivet, the Ferndale PTA, the Ferndale Education Foundation, and Ferndale High School, as well as our amazing Impi families!
This year the team will be competing at the Michigan State Championship at Saginaw Valley State University on April 12- April 15 and are on our way to qualifying for the Championship event in St Louis April 26-29.
